Artist Statement

My paintings explore the forces beneath the visible surface - the movement of light, the resonance between forms, and the continual processes of growth and transformation. 

I am drawn to light, movement and organic structures that suggest connections beyond their visible form. Through photographs, drawings and studies, I select and reduce these impressions before transforming them on the canvas.

When I begin a painting, I do not follow a fixed image. Working primarily in acrylic, I build the composition through layers of colour, transparent passages, gestures and emerging structures. I respond to what develops on the canvas - strengthening certain movements, interrupting others, and allowing recognizable forms to dissolve into a more open visual language.

Observation provides the starting point; intuition guides the painting as it takes shape.
